Pop-Up Vintage Fair

I am starting to gear up for the Christmas Season of Fairs, it's one of my favourite times of the year for Events, so over the next few weeks I'll be posting here on the event's Maygreen Fairies will be at this November and December.

My first Christmas Event will be on Saturday 8th November at the beautiful Lewes Town Hall with the Pop Up Vintage Fair Team.  This is a glorious event full of vintage treasures and handmade goodies.  You can make a real day of it at this Fair, there are over 60 stalls to browse through along with a vintage tea room selling scrumptious cakes and refreshments, then after you've finished at the Fair you then have the beautiful town of Lewes to stroll around with it's array of fabulous shops.

So if you're a lover of all things Vintage this is the Fair for you!  Hope to see you there!!

On The Road

I do so enjoy taking Maygreen Fairies on the road... Over the past few years I have attended many Fairs and Shows, from The Wealden Times Mid-Summer and Mid-Winter Fairs, to local Vintage Fairs such as Pop Up Vintage in Hassocks, Penshurst Vintage Fair, The Fairy Tale Fair and of course the Kitsch and Stitch Fairs, as well as the fabulous Selvedge Fair in Chelsea, London.
There are so many aspects I love when exhibiting at the Shows, the wonderful new friends you meet and make through fellow exhibitors, you all end up feeling like one big family, especially during the Fairs that take place over several days.  Arriving at the event, when nothing has been set up and then watching the stands grow around you turning an empty hall into a treasure trove of loveliness, is a joy to see.
As the customers start to arrive it is always wonderful to see familiar faces and meet new alike. I love hearing the comments people make about my creations, especially when they find the humour in some of my pieces.  And I love to people watch!!  I have had some very colourful customers peruse my work in the past, just look at this lovely lady below....
I have recently just finished two local Fairs and am not due to attend any others until later this year, but please return when you can to find out where Maygreen Fairies will be in the future, or sign up to follow my Facebook page for updates.
If you are a Fair / Event organiser and would be interested in having Maygreen Fairies at your Event please drop me an email, I would love to hear from you.

In Haberdashery Heaven

I am often asked where I find some of my vintage lace, fabric and ephemera that I use in my artwork.  I am very fortunate to have a good friend who is an antiques dealer and he is always on the lookout for pieces for me.  But one of my best friends, Sarah, has lived in East Sussex all her life and knows many hidden gems where I can find pieces that will inspire me.  She is always surprising me by taking me out to visit a shop that she has known for years and that she thinks I might like and our latest outing was one of those surprise visits and it did not dissapoint.... Just take a look......
Waywards, is a vintage haberdashery in St Leonards, it carries a huge selection of bolts of vintage furnishing fabrics, heavy linens, ticking, hand loomed cottons and retro prints.  It is packed full of the most wonderful old vintage draws that are home to hundreds of old cottons, silk and satin ribbons, lace trim and thousands of buttons.
I was like a kid in a candy store when I visited Waywards, it was a scrumptious feast for the eyes! And of course I did make several purchases.
Waywards is located in the trendy Norman Road, St Leonards, which has a number of unique and fascinating shops that are well worth a visit.  When I made my visit Sarah also took me to SHOP, a beautiful gift shop that also sells mouth watering cakes, where we took a well earned rest from our excitement at Waywards and had Cappuccinos and Coffee, Almond & Amaretto Cake.
The Owner of Waywards regularly has a stall in London's Portobello Road Market selling many of his haberdashery finds, so if you are not local to Sussex you can pay him a visit in London.
Just take a look at the shelves below packed with vintage buttons!!  What I love is that alot of the items in the shop also come in their original packaging, many from the thirties and forties.
And for me, one of the highlights of visiting was getting the opportunity to look through these old fabric sample books below, they were wonderful, so inspiring, and were also for sale!!
Waywards is definitely going to be a regular destination on my vintage ephemera address book!!
