Faded Memories

If you've ever wondered what to do with any old photos' or  memorabilia that you have stashed away in the bottom of a photo drawer at home, why not put some of it together to make a Memory Collage. You can create beautiful designs to display in your home or give to a loved one as a very special gift.

Here I have created a collage totally out of fabric, lace and trim, with an old key and watch face thrown in for good measure.  The photograph and documentation page have both been printed onto cotton fabric for this particular piece.
And once complete I have framed the finished piece by mounting it onto black cardstock surrounded by a complimentary fabric and then framed in a black wooden frame without the glass so that the viewer of the piece is tempted to touch and feel the various fabrics and memory pieces.

Give a Gift of Love!!!

Just finished these pretty ditties.... Vintage Style Lavender Hearts, they not only look gorgeous but they smell great too.  They would make a lovely gift to a dear friend.  Hang them as a display item or as a functional piece to scent a wardrobe or drawer.  I like to hang mine in the Airing Cupboard to keep the scent fresh on just laundered clothes and linens.
These heart design will be available at the Kitsch & Stitch Fair in Cranbrook this Saturday, it's a fabulous Fair with stall holders displaying handmade and vintage items, along with scrumptious cakes and refreshments from the local Hospice in the Weald, open from 10am till 3pm at the Village Hall in Cranbrook it's a lovely day out with the pretty village of Cranbrook to stroll around afterwards, so why not make a day of it and come along, it would be great to see you there!

Summer Madness

It's been a busy Summer trying to juggle the kids holidays with working from home and although it's been lovely spending so much time with my boys, I am looking forward to getting back to some normality next week when they are back at School.  There are a busy few months ahead for Maygreen Fairies, starting this Saturday with the September Kitsch & Stitch Fair in Cranbrook and then the Little White Studio Collage Workshops begin, which is very exciting.  The first image above is a canvas I created with my fellow tutor at the Little White Studio, Karen Evans, it will be displayed on the Studio wall along with other art pieces we have made, for more details on these workshops please visit The Little White Studio Blog.
I also took delivery over the Summer of a huge lot of vintage lace, trimming and ribbon, so I've been working my way through it, washing, ironing and packaging it up for sale and also to use in my own works, there were some lovely pieces in this batch and I can't wait to get creating with some of it.
So, what's on my Sewing Maching at the moment!!!!  Vintage "Shabby Hearts" that will be filled to the brim with Lavender, these will be available at the Kitsch & Stitch Fair on Saturday. If you are local and in the area please pop by and say Hello, it would be great to see you.

Fabric, Paper, Scissors Workshops

I have some very exciting news!  I have collaborated with an Artist friend (Karen) to offer "arty"workshops in the Horam, East Sussex area.  So, this Autumn you can join us at The Little White Studio for a "Fabric, Paper, Scissors Taster Day" where you will unleash your creative side and make your own collage using vintage photos, old lace, buttons, found objects and ephemera.  During the four hour taster day we will help you create a basic collage using these materials in fun and imaginative ways.
After the taster workshop, if the collage bug has bitten, then Karen and I will be running a six week workshop to share more of our favourite collage techniques to include incorporating vintage findings into your collage such as jewellery pieces, old watch parts and keys, creating a paper skirt from old music sheets, hand stitching within your collage, working with your family memorabilia to create personal collage and adding drawing and water colour images to your piece.  All of this will take place at The Little White Studio in the grounds of Karen's home in the little village of Horam, East Sussex. The Taster Workshop is being held on Friday 14th September and more details on this and the weekly workshops can be found at The Little White Studio Blog

So if you fancy some relaxed, creative fun in the Sussex Countryside where we will guide you with friendly advice on how to develop your artistic voice and turn an ordinary collage into something special then why not join us, we'd love to see you.
